Delaware County Historic & Preservation Network First Meeting
Reminder: Meeting Announcement Delaware County Historic and Preservation Network First Meeting Date: June 22, 2010 Location: Nether Providence Township Building 214 Sykes Lane Wallingford, PA 19086 Time: 6:30 PM
After completing all the work for the Public History Study, it's time to begin seeing the fruits of that labor. Come to the first meeting of the Delaware County Historic and Preservation Network! We announced the date at the final Public History Study meeting but here is a reminder with additional information. This meeting is for anyone interested in coordinating and cooperating among the historical organizations in the county to begin implementing all the many projects and addressing the needs that were identified during the Public History Study. These are your organizations and now you can have a voice in how to collectively make things happen. It was mentioned at the final meeting that the Planning Department is only helping to coordinate the beginning efforts of the formation of this consortium. This is a democratic organization, whose goals and projects are determined by the historical organizations involved and where everyone has equal say. The meeting will cover administrative issues, such as future meeting dates, times, and locations. Since we began technical training sessions already with the Volunteer and Fundraising lectures, continuing with technical trainings appear to be a good place to start. The group will set dates, prepare topics, with the guidance of the list provided from the Study, and decide on the cost for these trainings. Everyone come prepared with his or her personal and organization calendars to decide on the best dates. We will also distribute the tasks defined in the Implementation Plan so we can come prepared to the next meeting with ideas of what to begin implementing. In order to see one of the historic resources in our county and to stay centrally located, the Nether Providence Historical Commission has arranged the use of their Township Building. It is located at in a historic stone building at 214 Sykes Lane in Wallingford. From Providence Road (Rt. 252), turn east onto E. Brookhaven Road and then turn right at the first intersection onto Kershaw Road. Make a left onto Sykes Lane, and the building will be almost on your immediate right. There are a few parking spaces in front of the building and then there is street parking. Mapquest takes you a slightly different route, but it is also correct. If you have any questions, contact Jill Hall at 610-891-4910 or hallj@co.delaware.pa.us. I look forward to seeing everyone there. I believe the time is right for this effort, and with all of us working together we can make things happen!
